Ionizing X-ray and gamma-ray imaging techniques are used in medical diagnostics, security, and non-destructive testing. CEA Tech institute Leti has achieved some of the advances driving these techniques, and develops highly sensitive spectrometric detectors capable of discerning tissue or material in greater detail than other techniques.
The institute also leverages signal acquisition and processing and image processing know-how to develop in vivo and in vitro optical imaging systems. For example, the institute developed and patented lensless imaging, a technique used to monitor cell cultures in real time, capturing images of several thousand cells simultaneously. Leti also possesses expertise in unfocused imaging and Raman spectroscopy. By combining these technologies, the institute is able to both locate and characterize biological compounds on a single sample.
ALL TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS
A curved sensor that limits the number of lenses required in optical equipment was recently developed. The new sensor reduces the volume of camera modules by half, creating opportunities for the manufacturers of cameras, smartphones, and other optical systems.

Iprasense has just released its third product, one that leverages a lensless imaging technology protected by around a dozen patents. The company’s latest offering is particularly well-suited for high-throughput cellular screening in drug discovery.
A method for generating personalized calculations of the doses received by individual patients during image-guided radiation therapy was developed in research conducted under the AID-IGRT project, backed by France’s national research agency (ANR). Ultimately, the method will help improve medical imaging protocols and reduce doses.
