Ionizing X-ray and gamma-ray imaging techniques are used in medical diagnostics, security, and non-destructive testing. CEA Tech institute Leti has achieved some of the advances driving these techniques, and develops highly sensitive spectrometric detectors capable of discerning tissue or material in greater detail than other techniques.
The institute also leverages signal acquisition and processing and image processing know-how to develop in vivo and in vitro optical imaging systems. For example, the institute developed and patented lensless imaging, a technique used to monitor cell cultures in real time, capturing images of several thousand cells simultaneously. Leti also possesses expertise in unfocused imaging and Raman spectroscopy. By combining these technologies, the institute is able to both locate and characterize biological compounds on a single sample.
