The widespread adoption of electric vehicles will require manufacturers to integrate smart capabilities into vehicle batteries. Researchers at CEA Tech institute Liten are developing sensors and measurement systems and installing them in test vehicles without disrupting vehicle operation. These tests provide data used in aging models to obtain more reliable gauges of performance and develop energy-management strategies for batteries.
This research leverages the electric mobility platform, which boasts a comprehensive range of equipment, from motor test bench to solar-powered charging stations and instrumentation. The tests carried out on this equipment are rounded out by the continuous tracking of a fleet of some 30 vehicles, providing valuable feedback.
ALL TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS
A GaN power switch driver was recently integrated into a demonstrator system for a high-temperature application. This research will create new possibilities for the automotive, aeronautics, and mining exploration (drilling) industries.
CEA Tech institute Liten recently dimensioned, selected, and tested the components—including the battery—for a complete train on tires for tunnel construction projects. A prototype of the electric-powered train will be tested with Métalliance this fall.
Improved management of water in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) could help reduce costs and lengthen lifetimes, both of which are crucial to the fuel cells’ commercial success. Research conducted at Liten, a CEA Tech institute, in conjunction with CNRS/IMFT* and PSI** has unlocked some of the secrets to further progress.
