Today’s electronics industry is under pressure to boost processing power, reduce component form factors and power consumption, and keep costs down. CEA Tech’s electronics research focuses on component miniaturization and advanced CMOS technologies like FDSOI and nanowires, as well as density-enhancing 3D circuits. CEA Tech is also developing complex products like non-volatile memory, power components, MEMS and NEMS switches and sensors, and RF technologies for 5G communications networks. Finally, CEA Tech is paving the way for future advances through research on quantum electronics and new computing paradigms like neuromorphic architectures, for example.

Leti, a CEA Tech institute, was selected to supply micro-coolers for CERN’s LHCb experiment, one of four conducted on the synchrotron’s main ring. Leti had previously contributed to the NA62 experiment at CERN.
A power transformer with satisfactory thermal performance was produced using powder injection molding (PIM) and a printed-circuit-type industrial assembly. This advance will pave the way to smaller power supply components suitable for a variety of mobile devices.
