Liten presents island microgrid management tools to French energy research alliance

Liten, a CEA Tech institute, presented its digital tools for dimensioning and managing energy storage solutions at the ANCRE* press conference on February 7, 2018. Liten's solutions facilitate the integration of renewable energy into island grids.

For island grids, Liten recommends implementing battery- or hydrogen-based electricity storage solutions as a way to increase the proportion of renewable energy in the energy mix without putting the stability of the grid at risk. Liten is working with several partners to design and test algorithms and software to simulate, dimension, optimize, and manage these energy storage systems.

The digital tools Liten presented at the ANCRE press conference on February 7 are currently being used in an EU project to dimension and manage an energy storage system integrated into a microgrid on the Greek island of Tilos, where the proportion of PV and wind energy is substantial. Liten's algorithms are helping to make energy management on the island more efficient with the goals of achieving an energy-independent grid 100% powered by renewable energy and supporting grid stability to reduce the risk of blackouts when the microgrid is operating in isolated mode.

Liten also presented software currently in use in Corsica, French Guiana, and Réunion to gather an analyze data from the components of storage systems coupled with PV plants. The data is used to track daily performance and model possible improvements.
